Abstract

426,034. Disc brakes. WENNER, R. B., 2105, Northampton Street, Easton, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. July 24, 1934, No. 21648. [Class 103 (i)] A disc brake comprises a rotatable casing, a disc secured to and spaced from the casing by radial webs, a stationary disc en. gageable with the first disc by part rotation of a pressure plate and a member rotatable with the rotatable disc adapted to expel dirt, grease, &c. from the casing. A cup-shaped casing 8 is bolted to a vehicle wheel 3 and an annular disc 12 is secured to the casing by a number of radial webs 12a so as to prevent warping of the disc and to maintain it perpendicular to the shaft 1. A stationary disc 20 with friction facing 21 is slidably mounted on pins 17 extending from a fixed plate 9. A plate 15 is mounted for part rotation by slots 16 through which the pins 17 pass. When the plate 15 is turned by a cable 23, rollers 18 thereon bear on arcuate cam surfaces on the disc 20 and thus force this disc against the disc 12. A conical member 13 projecting from the casing 8 and which carries blades 14 to agitate the air, serves to expel dirt &c. through the space 11 between the casing and the plate 9. The plate 15 and disc 20 are returned by springs 24, 27 attached thereto and to lugs 26 on the plate 9.
