Abstract
403,371. Cables. BEAVER, C. J., Bell Place, Stamford Road, Bowdon, DIXON, N., Norence, Hale Road, Hale, both in Cheshire, and GLOVER & CO., Ltd., W. T., Trafford Park, Manchester. June 13, 1932, No. 16645. [Class 36.] In a cable, particularly of the trailing type, having a protective screen comprising wires or groups of wires which are braided around an insulated core containing one or more conductors, some or all of the wires or groups of wires have each an independent and complete covering of insulating material, preferably rubber. The coverings of the wires may be of different colours for identification purposes. In the construction shown, a core comprising rubber insulated conductors 1 laid up about a tough rubber cradle 3 and enclosed in a tough rubber sheath 4, has a protective screen consisting of groups 7 of fine wires enclosed in rubber coverings 6, and of interlaced textile cords 5, embedded in the rubber sheath 4. The lay of the groups of wires 7 is in the same direction as that of the conductors 1. A tough rubber outer sheath 8, which may be vulcanized to the rubber coverings 6, completes the cable. In modified constructions, the screen is wholly of wires, or groups of insulated and uninsulated wires may alternate.
