Abstract
Copper oxychloride is obtained by treating copper simultaneously with air and an ammoniacal solution of ammonium chloride. In carrying out the process, the copper may be placed in a tower provided with a false bottom, and mother liquor from the oxychloride, which is separated by decantation, be returned to the top of the tower. A spray of hydrochloric acid is introduced into the top of the tower to prevent escape of ammonia into the waste gases.ALSO:In the preparation of fungicides, copper oxychloride is first obtained by treating copper simultaneously with air and an ammoniacal solution of ammonium chloride, the sludge obtained is separated from mother liquor by decanting, and the oxychloride then mixed with quicklime, whereby a dry powder is obtained. Adhesive substances, such as casein, molasses, or colophony and inert colouring materials, such as methylene blue, may be added. In carrying out the process, the copper may be placed in a tower provided with a false bottom, and mother liquor from the separated oxychloride and ammonia evolved when the latter is mixed with lime be returned to the top of the tower. A spray of hydrochloric acid is introduced into the top of the tower to prevent escape of ammonia with the waste gases.
