Abstract
401,241. Acoustic resonators for musical instruments. COMPTON, J. H., Chase Road, Willesden, London. July 15, 1933, No. 20060. [Classes 13 and 88 (ii).] A device for adding resonance and reverberation effects when musical instruments are played comprises a sympathetically vibrated medium whose fundamental frequency is so low as both to be inaudible and to include in its natural harmonics the notes of the complete musical scale. In the construction shown, a single resonant string 1, which may be a coiled wire, influences an electrostatic (or electromagnetic) microphone 3 arranged at one end and connected to an amplifier 4 and loudspeaker. The other end of the string may be connected to a conical diaphragm 6. Specification 202,756, [Class 88 (ii), Music &c.], is referred to.
