Abstract
407,706. Drawing-apparatus for bast and long-leaf fibres. STONE, M. B., Canton Avenue, Milton, and WILLIAMSON, W. P., Ludlow, both in Massachusetts, U.S.A. June 20, 1932, No. 34647/33. Convention date, June 20, 1931. Divided on 407,690. [Class 120 (ii).] A slip-draft device for use in a drawing- head for slivers of bast fibres such as flax, hemp, jute and ramie and long leaf fibres such as sisal and manilla comprises a pair of positively driven rollers one of which is driven by the other so that the surface speed of the parts in contact with the sliver is substantially the same and arranged so that they may separate in accordance with the thickness of the sliver without breaking the driving engagement. The device is shown in a drawing head as described in Specification 407,690 and comprises a pair of fluted rollers 7, 7<a>, Fig. 1, the roller 7 being positively driven and driving the roller 7<a> by means of the flutes. The part of the roller 7<a> engaging the sliver is reduced in diameter, Fig. 3, and the roller is mounted in a lever 8 so that it may move relatively to the roller 7 in accordance with the hickness of the sliver.
