[Class 100 (i).] To secure accurate register of sheets at the front stops 15 of a printing-machine to which the sheets are fed by a reciprocating suction device or other sheet carrier, the sheets are registered laterally against a side stop 20, or 20a by reciprocating grippers which carry the sheets to the right or left according to which edge of the sheet is used for registration, and simultaneously with this side-registration of the sheets they are pressed forwards towards the stops 15 by means of a brush 39 with inclined bristles which is reciprocated towards the stops 15. The side-registering device comprises a lower gripper jaw 23 and an upper jaw 24 which are carried by a block 21 slidable on a fixed rod 18. The block 21 is moved by means of a reciprocating rod 28 fitted with an actuatng member 27 which as it moves to the left in Fig. 3 first acts on a pin 32 to raise the gripper jaw 24 and then acts on a pin 30 to move the block 21 and the grippers to the left, the jaw 24 passing through a slot 33 in the stop 20. On the reversal of the rod 28, the jaw 28 closes under spring action and the sheet is moved to the right. The member 27 then acts on a pin 31 on the block 21. The rod 28 is reciprocated by a cam 49 on the driving-shaft 50 which actuates the main sheet carrier. The cam 49 actuates a lever 49a connected by a link 51 to one arm 52 or 52a of a lever 53 which can be set to register the sheet against either edge. The cam 49 also operates a lever 46 which oscillates a shaft 35 via link 45 and lever 44. At each end the shaft 35 is fitted with a collar 36 provided with a bearing 37 in which the stem 38 of the brush 39 is mounted in such a manner that it can be adjusted vertically by means of a nut 42. The brush can yield vertically against the action of a spring 41. The brushes act to press the sheet towards the stops 15 simultaneously with the side-registering of the sheet. Tongues 43 extending from the feed table co-operate with the brushes.
