Abstract
1,086,851. Feeding sheets. WILLIAM CROSLAND Ltd. Aug. 20, 1965 [Aug. 21, 1964], No. 34218/64. Heading B6B. Sheets 17 are carried through a press such as a printing, cutting, or creasing press, by impaling pins -16 attached to -fingers 15 mounted on bars 12 carried by intermittently actuated endless chains, each bar 12 being registered, when a sheet carried thereby is located in the press, by two vertically - reciprocated pegs 32, Fig. 1a, or 54, Fig. 4, engaging recesses in the bar 12. Each bar 12 is also registered in the manner described before the sheet enters the press and also when the sheet is located over a delivery stack. All the pegs_32 are raised by the action of a cam 27 on a linkage 18, 20, 21, 22, and are lowered by the pressure of a spring 25 mounted on an extension 23 of link 22; this arrangement prevents damage to the mechanism if the downward movement of the pegs is obstructed by e.g. a displaced bar 12. The bars 12 are mounted in brackets 11, Fig. 2b (not shown), on the chains with some play in the direction of feed and transversely thereto. Further, the recess engaged by the tapered end of one of the pegs 32, is a good fit on the peg so ,as to register .the bar transversely In the arrangement shown in Fig. 4, the pegs 54 are fixed to a bar 52 reciprocated vertically by a cam-and-link mechanism as already described but arranged so that the pegs 54 are in their lowered or registering position just before the bar 12 reaches that position. Magnets 53 on the bar 52 act upon magnetizable strips on the bar 12 to draw the pins 54 into recesses 51 in the bar 12.
