Abstract
397,027. Endlessband propellers. PHILIPP, H., 13, Paracelsusstrasse, Salzburg, Austria. Feb. 8, 1933, No. 3827. [Classes 4 and 114.] Endless-band propellers for marine or aircraft are provided with an auxiliary disc which ensures the movement of the blades into the operative position and leaves them free to feather on the inoperative part of their motion. A chain gearing k<1> moves over sprockets s<1>, s<2> on shafts of which one is driven by a power plant and in turn drives through chain gearing a second shaft on which is mounted an auxiliary disc s<5>. Pivotally attached to the chain k<1> are paddles f<2>, f<3>, f<4> which are restrained by flexible members k<4>. On the auxiliary disc s<5> are arms a<1>, a<2> carrying rollers and as the blades are carried into the driving position, these rollers contact with the blades and force them into the operative position. As the blades travel toward the inoperative position, these rollers move out of their path and the blades automatically feather. In a modification whereby the operative range may be increased, in addition to this auxiliary disc which brings the blades into operative position, there is an external endless band chain k<2>. the links of which carry stop members n<2> that engage pallets p on the tips of the blades and these carry the blades along after the auxiliary disc has given the initial setting.
