Abstract

396,845. Hair-drying appliances. SMITH, S., 209, Villa Street, Lozells, Birmingham. March 4, 1932, No. 6500. [Class 81 (ii).] An apparatus for drying the hair by means of jets of air comprises a number of tubes 13b having perforations 13a and arranged so as to have a helmet-like contour the set of tubes being actuated so as to have an oscillating rotary movement. The tubes are mounted on a disc 12 at the forward end of a casing in which is also mounted an electric motor 5 driving a fan 7. The air stream is warmed by means of a coil 9c and enters the tubes through their tubular sockets 12a. The oscillatory movement is effected through a worm gear 18, shaft 19, crank pin 20 and flexible shaft 21. According to the Provisional Specification the oscillatory movement may be effected by alternate admission of air through a mechanically operated valve device to two sets of tubes in which the air jets are oppositely inclined or the tubes may be continuously rotated.
