Abstract

359,813. Spirit levels. SHERWOOD, W. C., Taylor, Texas, U.S.A. Jan. 9, 1931, No. 828. [Class 97 (ii).] A body carrying a number of spirit levels and a gauge plate for adjusting the instrument for varying inclinations is detachably mounted on a base member so that a V-shaped groove on the underside of the body receives a corresponding projection on the upper surface of the base member. In the form shown, the body 1 provided with spirit levels 3 .. 6 and a transversely adjustable rod 8 is secured to the base member 18 by bolts 19. When removed from the base 18, the body 1 may be used for levelling shafts or determining the drop in pipes &c. In the latter case the gauge plate 13 provided at one end of the body 1 is slid along the groove 12 to the required position and secured by the screw 15. A strap 11 is provided to hold the instrument 1 in position.
