Abstract

338,186. Latham, J. Aug. 10, 1929. Gauging-apparatus.-A linear measuring instrument, particularly for measuring ordinates of curves obtained from an impact machine for testing wood comprises feet 1, 2, with points 20, 21 and index lines 22 for positioning the instrument relatively to a datum line on a curve, the feet supporting a cross-bar 3 on which is slidable a cross-head 4 carrying the cylinder 5 in which can be screwed, against the action of spring 9, by means of the nut 11, the rod 6 slidably carrying the sleeve 12, fixed by nut 14 to give a rough adjustment and slidably carrying the microscope 15 which is positioned on the sleeve against the action of spring 17 by means of the nut 16 to give a fine adjustment and which has rigidly attached to it a scale 19 forming a vernier with a scale 18 rigidly fixed to bar 6 which is supported by a triangular foot 7 supported on balls, castors, or other anti-friction means.
