Abstract

359,226. Door latches and locks. THOMPSON, H. A., 163, Euston Road, London. Oct. 31, 1930, No. 32720. [Class 44.] In a door latch of the runner-plate type in which the bolt l is capable of inward movement against the action of a coiled spring o independently of the runner-plate, the latter is in the form of a rectangular frame composed of two longitudinal rods g which are connected by end strips e, f and fitted with coiled springs k adapted to be compressed between fixed lugs h and the strip e. The latter is formed with an aperture in which the headed spindle m carrying the bolt l is rotatably mounted, while the strip f is shaped to fit around the boss of the usual handle-operated follower j. A locking-plate s, controlled by a lever r, may be moved by a key into engagement with the strip e to lock the frame against inward movement; if it is desired that the bolt itself should also be locked, to prevent it from being forced in, the plate s is formed with a projecting nose t, Fig. 4, which engages behind the bolt when the locking-plate is shot.
