Abstract
511,931. Latches and locks. ELZETT EISENWARENFABRIK AKT.-GES. March 21, 1939, No. 8995. Convention date, Dec. 9, 1938. [Class 44] In a latch of the kind in which the latch bolt may be shot by key to serve as a lock bolt, and in which, in its normal position as a latch bolt, retraction is effected by a handle-operated follower acting through a bell-crank lever, the end 10 of one arm 9 of the bell-crank lever is of cylindrical form concentric with the lever pivot 4. Normally the follower is held by spring 7 with a projection 8 abutting against the lock case and the end of follower arm 6 just clear of the cylindrical surface 10, so that when the follower is moved clockwise by depressing the handle, not shown, the end of arm 6 engages the side 11 of arm 9, moving the bell-crank lever anti-clockwise so that its other arm 13 retracts the bolt 2. When the bolt is shot by key the bell-crank lever is moved clockwise to a position in which the end of arm 6 engages the cylindrical surface 10, thus preventing operation by the handle.
