Abstract
330,900. Ricardo, H. R. March 18, 1929. Addition to 230,974. Ball-jointed hinges.-In a joint. according to the parent Specification wherein the intermediate, member comprises a skeleton B formed of metal fusible at a relatively-high temperature and having cast thereon metal D fusible at a. relatively-low temperature which constitutes the outer spherical bearing surface of the member, the skeleton is provided with a series of radial holes B<1> and with outwardly-extending end flanges B<2> which partially or wholly close the space between the skeleton and the outer bearing member A, so as to prevent the metal D from being forced out axially when under load. Where possible, metal is also cast on the inner surface of the skeleton to provide an inner cylindrical bearing surface for the pin C, the skeleton being provided with inwardly-extending end flanges B<2> which partially or wholly close the space between the skeleton and the pin. Diametrically-opposite parts of the skeleton are cut away to permit its insertion into the member A prior to the casting of the metal D.
