Abstract
336,984. Sailer, W. April 18, 1929. Tanning with special chemicals; chrome tanning.-Substances suitable for tanning are prepared by causing sulphite cellulose lye, phenols, cresols, and natural tanning substances to react with enzymes of the class of desmolases (phenolases, peroxydases, dehydrases) and with substances yielding oxygen, e.g. hydrogen peroxide, perborates, &c. The substances so obtained may be further treated with halogens. The tanning substances may be used for partial tanning prior to treatment with chrome liquors. According to examples, (1) sulphite-cellulose liquor, and guaiacol, p-cresol or pyrocatechol are mixed with hydrogen peroxide and peroxydase solution; (2) pine bark extract or sulphite-cellulose liquor are treated with hydrogen peroxide and peroxydase and the product is treated with bromine.
