Abstract

311,845. Eyston, G. E. T. Feb. 23, 1928. Fixed-abutment type. - In a rotary pump machine of the outwardly moving vane type in which centrally disposed rings or tracks take up the centrifugal stresses of the vanes through relatively thin shoe or slipper devices with which the vanes are articulately engaged, the vanes are constructed so that they are retained by the rings against inward movement, for example by bearing on the external surface of the rings. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the vanes l are notched at their inner edges to form foot portions o which extend into channel-section rings p and engage therewith by means of articulated slippers s; the rings p are mounted on ball bearings r on a shaft h fixed centrally in the pump casing. The vanes pass through rocking members n in the rotor d and may only bear thereon at selected points as described in Specification 308,640: the rocking members n may be positively controlled by slotted arms engaging thereon at selected points as described in Specification 295,756. A constant tip clearance is provided between the vanes and the casing, the formation of which is suitably modified when the rotor has radially sliding vanes. Fig. 5 shows a form of articulated connection between the vanes l and clippers s comprising a hook 4 on slippers which engages a hole 5 in the vane l; a pivot pin and socket connection may be used or the vane foot portion o may bear in a groove in the slipper.
