Abstract
327,119. Eyston, G. E. T. Dec. 24, 1928. Fixed-abutment type; balancing moving parts; packing vanes.-In a radially-sliding vane rotary pump with diametrically opposite vanes formed as, or mounted within, a rigid vane structure which bridges the casing space and engages a revoluble control drum or rings suitably formed on the inner surface to permit the necessary relative movement of the vanes, the drum or rings and the rotor are driven at the same speed by means arranged wholly within the axial length of the rotor or by equal gear wheels engaging interiorly with a common gear wheel. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the vanes p are separate and slide in grooves 7 in bars 5 which extend through enlarged ends 6 of the vane slots in the rotor and engage flats o on the interior of a control drum c which is thereby driven and rotates with small clearance in a circular casing a. Packing strips 13 may be fitted to the vane tips, or bearing slippers if the vanes are diametral. The vanes or the vane-carrying bars may additionally be controlled at their centres by the means described in Specification 320,398. The vanes may bear in the rotor slots as described in Specification 308,640. If the control drum is replaced by rings the contour of the casing between the rings is made conchoidal. In the construction shown in Fig. 4 the drum and rotor are driven through equal gear wheels t, y which engage interiorly with a gear wheel 11.
