Charges, conveying.-A furnace F, for the treatment of articles A of circular or elliptical cross section, is provided with a pair of notched step-by-step conveyer bars d which operate in the space between fixed charge-supporting plates a having toothed upper edges b as shown. The bars d are operated by rollers n eccentrically mounted on shafts o. The notches c in the bars d are so arranged, in relation to the teeth b, that as the conveyer-bars rise the articles A are lifted from the position shown and carried over the apices of the teeth b; during the downward movement of the bars d, the charges rest in the angles between the bars and the inclines d<1> and thus rotate as they travel down the latter, coming to rest against the next tooth b before the bars d move out of contact with them.
