276,732. Wellman, Seaver Rolling Mill Co., Ltd., and Smith, S. June 1, 1926. Pickling.-In an apparatus, for pickling metal articles, such as tubes or bars, the articles 5 fed by a conveyer 7 and a feeding device 11 to a pickling bath 1 are conveyed through the bath by projectors 4 on an endless chain 3 passing round sprockets 2 so that they do not contact with each other, and during their progress through the bath the articles are caused to rise and fall therein by engagement with two racks 6, the teeth of which are inclined upwardly in the direction of travel through the bath and then descend abruptly. The teeth of one rack are staggered with respect to those of the other so that the articles are given a see-saw movement so as to wash and shake them in the bath and shake off the scale.
