Abstract

Plug couplings; direct connections between conductors; earth-continuity couplings.-An X- ray installation comprises a tube, a transformer, and at least one high-tension cable, each of these members being surrounded by a metal envelope which can be grounded, and one end or both ends of the high-tension cables 2, 3 fit into insulating terminal pieces 21 - - 24, the conductors of the cathode cable 3 passing through them and having cylindrical conducting posts 26, 27, Fig. 3. which engage conducting sockets 41, 42, embedded in an insulating block 38, within the insulating bushing 18, and extending within the hollow end of the tube 5. The sockets 41, 42 have extension tubes 39. 40 within which the cathode heating wires 11, 12 are clamped. The contact surface 28 between the pieces 21, 38 is oblique to the lines of force. A metal ring 47 engaging the insulating piece 21 on a curved surface is housed within a metal collar 48 by which the cable 3 is secured to the casing 16, so as to ensure metallic continuity from the casing 16 with the metal sheath of the cable 3, and with the metal casing 20 within which the transformer 4 is housed, and which is earthed. The transformer is mounted on an insulating wall 19, and the conductors in the cable 3 are connected with the conductors from the secondary coil for the heating circuit by means of an insulated terminal piece 22 and contact sockets substantially as above. For the anticathode cable 2 a single socket connection only is required and the insulating terminal piece 23, Fig. 2, may embrace or contact with the heat conducting extension 10 of the anticathode. Alternatively an insulating block 52, Fig. 5, may be fitted at the other hollow end of the tube 5 into which the extension 10 passes. The insulating blocks 38, 52 may have flattened surfaces 45 to allow air circulation and the ends of the metal cover 16 have perforations 17, Fig. 3. To make the transformer casing portable a handle may be fitted by clamping the ends in the openings provided for the cables.
