Indicating number of vacant seats; illuminated stencil and transparency indicators.-Relates to a system for indicating the number of the vacant seats in a row of seats in a theatre upon an indicator located at the end of the row and the total number of vacant seats on an ammeter located in the box office. As shown in Fig. 1, lamps b in a casing c<1> at the end of a row of seats are connected to seat-operated switches a which are closed when the corresponding seats are vacant to prepare the lamp circuit. The lamps are connected in parallel to a common return wire including a switch d which when operated causes illumination of the lamps associated with the vacant seats. An ammeter i located in the box office mav be selectively connected by switches h in series with the row indicators to register the total number of vacant seats in the rows and a second ammeter is employed to indicate the vacant seats in a number of rows. Indicators mav be located at each end of a row of seats, and may be connected in parallel or be independently controlled-by the seat contacts. Fig. 3 shows an indicator for use at the end of a row. The lamps b are arranged behind a screen k bearing a series of numbers or letters corresponding to the seats. The switch d for operating the lamps is mounted on the front of the casing and a projecting portion j<2> of the casing has illuminated screens j<3> bearing the number or letters of the row. The portion j<2> also is adapted to illuminate the gangway. In a modification a special aperture is provided in the casing for illuminating the gangway. In a further modification, the indicating lamps are replaced by electromagnetically operated flaps adapted normally to cover signal apertures, in a casing.
