278,536. Lewis, W. J., and Labarge, C. H. Nov. 4, 1926. Extrusion machines.-An extrusion machine for moulding and chilling butter or other plastic material has a rotary impeller formed with a sinuous flange operating in an annular channel, the walls of which are refrigerated, and engaged by a sliding gate extending across the channel. As shown, the apparatus comprises a casing 20 within which is a chamber 22 for cold brine or the like and an annular channel 24 for the plastic material which is delivered thereto from a side hopper 26. The plastic material is impelled by a wheel 30 having a sinuous flange 50 forming with the walls of the channel a series of alternate pockets. Near the outlet 12 the flange passes through a closely-fitting slot in a transversely sliding gate 82.
