A conveyer in a baking oven A has endless chains 20, 22 and comprises a series of tray holders, each consisting of a pair of spaced plates 42, 44, connected by a rod 46 rigidly supporting a fork 48. During travel around sprockets 24, 30 the tray holders are maintained horizontal by an idler roller 56 on plate 44, which engages a cam 58 mounted on the frame of the machine. An idler roller 52 on plate 42 engages a similar cam at the other end of the machine on the near side. An endless chain 40 maintains sprockets 24, 30, which are in offset relation, in uniform rotation. The upper runs of the chains 20, 22 are supported on horizontal rails 60, 62, and the lower runs are initially supported by rails 64, 66. The rails bend downwardly at 68, 70 and level off at 71, 72. Chain-retaining rails 73, 74 are provided above the bends. Unloading.-Chain-supporting rails 76 have an offset rail 78 extending upwardly above the level of endless chains 79 which are driven at a speed substantially greater than the speed of the endless chains 20, 22. As the tray holders descend from the level of the rails 64, 66 to the level of the rail portions 71, 72, the fork 48 passes below the level of the stationary grid formed by the rails 78 thus depositing a pan P on to the grid. The pan remains on the grid until lugs 83 or 84 of chains 79 move the pan on to these chains whence it may be transferred to another conveyer. This operation is so timed that after the pan has been deposited on the grid the pan will be moved off the grid before the fork 48 rises back upwardly through the grid. Loading.-After passing upwardly through the grid, the fork 48 passes upwardly between input chain conveyers 90 running over rails 91. Pans to be loaded are carried by the conveyers 90 against stops 93 provided on extension pieces 92 of the rails. The pans remain on the conveyers 90 until picked up by rising forks 48. U.S.A.
