Abstract

269,966. Enock, A. G. Jan. 23, 1926. Cylinders, arrangement of igniters in, and, passages of, external to valves.-The cylinder end is surrounded by an annular induction chamber, and the cylinder is provided with a portless sleeve inlet beat valve in which the piston slides, and which closes upon an annular seating upon the cylinder end or cylinder cover. The overall diameter of the induction chamber is greater than that of the seat of the valve. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the annular passage is shown at B, and the inlet is controlled by a. sleeve valve D which has a seat d engaging a stationary seat b. Friction between the piston and the valve effects the valve movement. The exhaust valve E and sparking-plug G are placed in the cylinder head. In a modification, the valve E is arranged vertically, and the plug horizontally. In a further modification the exhaust valve is hollow and has the plug arranged within it. In the construction shown in Fig. 4, the exhaust valve E is of hollow type with a water jacket between it and the sparking-plug G. In a further modifioation, the sparking-plug and exhaust valve are arranged inclined in the cylinder head, and the valve D has a bevelled end which engages a seat on the cylinder head. The valve seating may be formed in a groove in the cylinder head. The sleeve valve may rest upon a ring of steel &c. by which it is raised.
