Abstract

Filaments; deposit collectors; bulbs; screens within bulbs.-A concentrated light source is formed by winding two helical filaments together helically, or by winding one around the other, and then again winding the resulting structure into a helix. The body so formed may be mounted on a straight or on an angular support, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3 respectively. To provide for cooling the gas in the bulb, a transparent tube 8 is mounted between the light source and the stem 5, the gas rising through the tube and descending between it and the neck of the bulb, where it is cooled. The upper end 9 of the tube is closed to screen the stem from the hot gas, for the passage of which lateral apertures 10 are formed in the tube. To increase the cooling-surface of the bulb neck, it is provided with corrugations 12, Fig, 4, or with fins. Deposition of evaporated metal occurs only in the upper part of the bulb.
