Abstract
264,803. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Jan. 25, 1926, [Convention date]. Pulp, preparation of.-In the production of half stuff from spinner's waste, flax, hemp, straw, jute and the like, the raw materials are treated with a lye consisting of one part of alkali monosulphite to 3-3¢ parts alkali bisulphite with the addition of neutral salts such as soluble sulphates and/or chlorides of the alkalies or alkaline earths, or magnesium, or aluminium. The treatment is carried out at elevated temperatures, preferably under pressure. The lye used may be of high concentration and the excess removed after soaking, after which the heating at above 100‹ C. and the dilution of the lye may be effected by the admission of steam under pressure. The neutral salts used are preferably such as undergo hydrolytic decomposition at the elevated temperatures used. Specification 5365/82 is referred to.
