Abstract
259,806. Weissenberger, F., and Mollenkopf, F. Dec. 30, 1925. Variable - speed gearing comprising separate trains with sun gears 6, 7, Fig. 2, fast on a driving-shaft 2, a common planet carrier 3 with a driven sprocket &c. 4 between them, and internally-toothed gears 8, 9 adapted to be braked alternatively is controlled by means adapted to apply the brakes 10, 10' alternatively or simultaneously as desired. The ends of the bands 10, 10<1> are secured to the ends of an intermediate pivoted lever 11, Fig. 1, so that when a rod 17 or 17<1> is pulled, one brake is applied and the other positively disengaged, so as to bring one train or the other into action. The pivot 11<1> of the lever 11 is carried by a screwed rod 12 the nut 13 of which is operable by a hand crank 14 so as to adjust the brakes or to tighten them simultaneously to stop, say, a vehicle upon which the gearing is fitted.
