Abstract

A fire door frame is adjustable in the plane of the door by means of a sliding rebate B to which it is attached by a bolt A passing through the door hinge, through intumescent block C, to a locking nut D attached to back plate E which carries architrave M. The sliding rebate B is mounted to be slidable relative to the frame K by a dovetail joint J (see also figure 2).

Description

2405 1 71 A DOOR FRAME THAT HAS ADJUSTABLE REBATES.
THE INVENTION IS A DOOR FRAME WITH ADJUSTABLE REBATES THAT CAN BE
ADJUSTED TO FIT A DOOR THAT HAS EITHER SHRANK WITH DRYNESS, OR SWOI I ON WITH DAMPNESS.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION.
When a fire door is fitted in damp corxibons it will swell with moisture. Altematively when it is fitted in dry or hot conditions it will shrink. Current building abcm require that a three millimetre W must be maintained between the edge of the door and the face of the rebate.
This invention saves the problem of maintaining any W required What the invention does is when the fire door has swollen due to being in a damp atmosphere the vertical rebates can be widened. Alternatively if the are door has shrunk the vertical rebates can be narrowed so that the correct gap can be maintained between door and rebate.
ESSENTIAL FEATURES.
The invention provides a quick and easy way to maintain the required W between a fire door or pair of fire doors by using adjustable rebates that can be wound in or wound out by means of threaded bats. The rebates are dovetailed into the main frame but not fastened to the main frame therefore can altered accordingly with the adJusdng bats. The dovetails are an important part of the construction of the frame because when a frame is burning it has a tendency to curl away from whatever it is fixed to and the dovetails greasy reduce the curling action.
Also built into the frame behind the rebates is an irtumicent sponge which expands when it is exposed to heat and seals off the gap between the back plate and the back of the rebate, this greatly prolongs the time that it takes a fire to bum through the frame.
-
Preferred embodiments of the invention will now be decribed, by way of example only and not in any limitative sense, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure one shows a plan view of an horizontal cut through section see 2 - 2 fig 4.
Figure two shows the vertical dove tailing beetween the main frame and the rebate, [ this is shown with the back plate and achitraves removed].
Figure Free shows a cut - away section of the hinge side of the invention.
figure four shows a front elevation of the door frame and fire door.

Claims (1)

  1. CLAIMS, An adjustable fire door frame for single or double fire doors.
Where at A, FIG 1, The hinge side of the door is adjustable by means of a bolt that travels through the hinge, then through the sliding rebate [ B] then through the intumicent sponge [ C] then through a locking nut [ D] which is attached to the L shaped back plate.
This type of adjustable door jamb allows the gap to be regulated down the contra of a pair of fire doors where they meet in the middle.
At [ F] this shows the adjusting bolt travailing through [ G] the sliding rebate, then through [ H] the intumicent spore, then through the locking nut [ I which is attached to the L shaped back plate.
This type of door jamb allows the closing side gap of a single fire door to be adjusted.
At [ J] this shows the dove tails that are attached to the sliding rebates [ B] and [ G] these dove tails are housed into the main frame jambs [ K] and allow the rebates to slide in and out.
[ L] shows ordinary architrave's fitted to the frame.
[ M] shows the architrave's rebated for the L shaped back plate.
FIG 2, This shows the dove tailor between the rebate [ 1] and the main frame [ 2], this is shown with the back plate and the architrave's removed.
FIG 3, This shows a three dimensional cutaway section of the hanging side door jamb, this has both right and left side applications and are used for regulating the centre meeting gap down a pair of fire doors 1 shows the rebated architrave 2 shows the back plate.
3 shows one of the adjusting bolts travelling first through the hinge, then through the sliding rebate, then through the intumicent sponge, and finally coming to rest in the locking nut that is attached to the back plate 4 shows the dove tail housings in the main frame. FIG 4
This shows at [ 1] the width that can be adjusted, this applies for frames that have either single or double doors.
2 - 2 is the plan view section shown in FIG 1.
Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows ONE, AN adjustable door in which an adjusting bolt passes through the door hinge and through a sliding rebate to which the hinge is attached, through a block of intumicent sponge material, and connected to an L shaped back plate by means of a locking nut, the sliding rebate being conr acted to the main frame by means of a dovetail connection which permits the sliding adjustment.
    TWO
A door frame as claimed in claim 1 which does not have any internal cavities. Three
A doer frame according to claims 1 or 2 in which an architraYe conceals one limb of the L shaped back plate.
