Abstract
247,177. Patart, G. Feb. 7, 1925, [Convention date]. Alcohols; oxygenated organic compounds.- The catalytic interaction of carbon monoxide and hydrogen under pressure is conducted with a view to the production of higher alcohols than methyl alcohol, by separating from the products the methyl alcohol and other low molecularwedght compounds, and introducing them in the vapour state into the circulating mixtureof carbon monoxide and hydrogen or into a similar mixture before it passes into the methyl alcohol synthesiser. Alternatively, the separated products may be passed alone and under pressure through a reaction chamber containing the same or a similar methyl alcohol-forming catalyst. The separated products must in each case be heated to the temperature of the reaction chamber, say by passing them preferably in a continuous manner through a vessel heated to a point slightly above the critical temperature.. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) refers to the use of mixtures of zinc oxide with potassium oxide, copper oxide, or copper as catalysts for the reaction, and of pressures of 100 to 500 atmospheres; oxygenated organic compounds are also stated to be produced. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
