Abstract

A speed reminding unit 1 for indicating the speed limit to a person driving behind. The speed reminding unit 1 is attachable 2 to the inside of the back windscreen of a car and has a power and signal cord 3 leading to a control switch 4 with various speed options and a power source cord 5 supplying the unit with the required power from a power source on the car. The unit may have alternative attachment means 6 which allows it to be attached to the frame of a car as part of its assembly.

Description

Speed reminder This invention relates to a device for alerting and reminding a person driving behind, if they try to force the person driving in front to drive faster or move out of their way by flashing their headlights or sounding their horn, of the general speed limit of a given area.
When motorists are driving on single or dual carriageways, they are required by law to observe the general speed limit of the area regardless of which lane they are travelling in. There are other motorists who ignore the speed limit and will try to force the driver ahead to drive faster or change lane by honking or flashing their headlights to make way for them to pass. This is common on the motorways where the maximum speed limit is 70mTh and also on smaller town roads. It often causes the person driving in front to panic, get anxious and may break the speed limit regulations as they accelerate or make a sudden lane switch thereby endangering other motorists and themselves. This can be very dangerous where speed restrictions are in place due to population density, schools, senior citizens or other hazards. The driver being forced to make way may be stressed and ends up over speeding, cursing, swearing, may make finger gestures or apply breaks in defiance to being bullied; actions and a state of mind not safe for road users.
To better communicate and remind the person driving behind, to give control and peace of mind to the person driving in front and to make the roads safer, the invention proposes a digital screen speed reminding unit with attachment means to be attached inside the back windscreen of a car. The digital screen allows the driver in front, when prompted, to show and remind the person driving behind of the general speed limit in the area.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows the speed reminding unit with power & signal cords and a control switch, Figure 2 shows a speed reminding unit attached to the inside of a back windscreen of a car according to the invention.
In figure 1, the speed reminding unit I with attachments means 2 to attach inside the back windscreen of a car. The power and signal cord 3 leads to a control switch 4 with various speed options. The power source cord 5 branches out to a power source on the car. Alternative attachment means 6 allows the unit to be attached to the body of a car as part of its assembly.
Figure 2 shows the speed reminding unit 1 attached to the inside of the back windscreen 2 by attachment means 3. Alternative attachment means 4 allows the unit to be attached to the body of a car 5 as part of its assembly.

Claims (2)

  1. Claims I. A speed reminding unit with attachment means for attaching the unit to the inside of the back windscreen of a car with a power and signal cord leading to a power source and a signal switch with various speed limit indicators.
  2. 2. A speed reminding unit according to claim 1, in which the unit can be attached to a car's body near the back windscreen when it is being assembled.
