Abstract
A bracket 1 for a fence post comprises a bracket base 3 with a frame 5 at its lower end to engage the post 2, a claw 6 at its upper end to engage the top of the post and a threaded aperture 7 on the bracket base to receive a screw to secure the bracket to the post. A projection 9 on the bracket base may be inserted into a corresponding recess of a base housing 10 of the object to be supported. The object is secured by the hasp 12A of a padlock 12 passing through corresponding apertures in the projection 11 and base housing 13.
Description
The present invention relates to a support bracket for a concrete post. It also relates to an object connected to such a bracket.
Many gardens have fences supported by "H-section" concrete posts. Many people like to support functional and decorative objects above the ground such as hanging baskets for flowers and lights. The invention seeks to provide a bracket to support objects on such posts and other posts.
According to the present invention there is provided a bracket for a concrete post comprising: a) a bracket base having a top and bottom end to which an object can be secured, b) a frame to engage with the concrete post and connected to the bottom end ofthe bracket, and c) a claw or finger to engage with the top ofthe post and connected to the top ofthe bracket base, whereby objects secured to the bracket are supported on the post above the ground.
The frame may be generally "C-shaped" to engage into the waist of an "H-shaped" concrete post. Alternatively the frame could generally embrace the post.
In one embodiment the bracket base further comprises a threaded aperture to receive a threaded screw, such as an Allen key screw, to secure the bracket to the post.
In another embodiment, the bracket base may include a projection to insert in a recess of an object to be supported on the bracket such as a light or hanging basket. An aperture may extend through the projection through which a lock shaft, such as the hasp of a padlock, can pass and through a corresponding aperture on the object recess to lock the object to the bracket base.
In one embodiment, the claw may be in the form of fork with two fingers. Alternatively the claw may include a "C-shaped" frame and a finger which rests to the top of the post. The claw may be integrally formed with the bracket base. The "C-shaped" frame may in addition or alternatively be formed integrally with the bracket.
The bracket may be formed from metal.
The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a bracket on a base and a lamp for attachment thereto, and
Figure 2 shows a perspective view of an alternative bracket with a hanging basket attached.
Referring to Figure 1 there is shown a bracket 1 for an "H-shaped" concrete post 2.
Bracket 1 has a bracket base 3 having a top and bottom end to which an object, such as a lantern 4, can be secured. Connected to the bottom end of bracket base 3 is a frame 5 to engage with the concrete post 2. Frame 5 is generally "C-shaped" to engage into the waist of a an "H-shaped" concrete post (alternatively the frame could generally embrace the post). The top of bracket base 3 is bifurcated to form a claw 6 to engage with the top of the post 2.
The bracket base 3 further comprises a threaded aperture 7 to receive a threaded screw, such as an Allen key screw 8, to secure the bracket to the post by preventing it from lifting off the post.
The bracket base 3 includes a projection 9 to insert in a recess of a base housing 10 of the lamp 4. An aperture 11 extends through the projection 9 through which a lock shaft, such as the hasp 12A of a padlock 12, can pass and through a corresponding aperture 13 on the base housing 10 to lock the lantern 4 to the bracket.
Referring to Figure 2 there is shown an alternative bracket 21 for an "H-shaped" concrete post 22.
Bracket 21 has a bracket base 23 having a top and bottom end to which an object, such as a flower basket 24, can be secured. Connected to the bottom end of bracket base 23 is a "C-shaped" frame 25 to engage into the waist of a an "H-shaped" concrete post (alternatively again the frame could generally embrace the post). A claw 26 clay may include a "C-shaped" frame 26A and a finger 26B which rests to the top of the post.
The bracket base 23 further comprises a threaded aperture (not shown) to receive a threaded screw, such as an Allen key screw 28, to secure the bracket to the post by preventing it from lifting off the post.
The bracket base 23 includes a projection (not visible) to insert in a recess of a base housing 30 of the basket 24. Again an aperture extends through the projection through which a lock shaft, such as the hasp 32A of a padlock 32, can pass and through a corresponding aperture 33 on the base 30 to lock the basket to the bracket.
The frame and/or claw or finger may be integrally formed with the bracket base. The bracket may be formed from metal.
The invention may take a form other than that specifically described. For example the bracket may be designed to fit posts other than "H-shaped" concrete posts. A double bracket may be provided to support two objects, which double bracket may also have two frames spaced apart on the bracket base to give added strength.
Objects other than lanterns and hanging baskets may be secured to a post by the bracket of the invention.
The invention also extends to an object connected to the bracket ofthe invention.
Further modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the present invention.
