Abstract
A flood barrier has a wall bracket which is fixed and sealed to a wall or some construction surrounding an aperture to be flood protected. The panel 10 is releasably secured to the wall bracket by means of a clamping device 11. When the danger of flooding is passed the panel and clamp can be removed for storage together.
Description
DEMOUNTAISLE FLOOD BARRIER
This invention relates to a demollntable flood barrier.
Flood bariiers provide a means of preventing tlie ingress of flood water to property through doors or similar apertures the closure of which is frequently not proof against flooding. The most common form of flood protection consists of sacks filled with sand or earth which, by their nature, are porous and only offer protection for a limited period
According to the present invention there is provided a demountable flood barrel comprising of a bracket which is sealed to the wall or similar construction around an aperture to be protected from flooding. a water-impeiwious panel and a clamping device for seculino the panel to the wall bracket. the panel and clamp being demountable for storage when not in use.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the following drawings in which:
FIG 1 shows the barrier from the outside of the property (the potential flood side).
FIG 2 shows an exploded view of the banter showing the orientation of the
components
FIG 3 shows a holizontal section of the banter with an enlarged view of the panel and
wall bracket seals.
FIG 4 shows a vertical section of the barter with seal and clamp details.
FIG 5 shows the wall bracket.
FIG 6 shows lower clamping lug detail at C..C..C in Fig 5.
FIG 7 shows upper clamping lug section at D..D in Fig 5
Referring to the drawings the flood barrier comprises a permanently fixed wall bracket 12 with clamping lugs to seal to the outside of the aperture. an impervious demountable panel 10 with a continuous seal 14 around its sides and bottom and a clamping device 11 to clamp the panel to the wall bracket from the dl! side of the ban tier In order to mount the device the wall bracket 12 is first tixed and sealed to the wall. The panel 10 may then be clamped to the outer face of the wall bracket by means of the clamping device it provided to give a water proof seal against flood water.
To demount the device the clamp 11 is released. Both clamp II and panel 10 are then lifted away from the wall bracket 12 for storage leaving the wall bracket 12 fixed to the wall.
Claims (5)
1. A demountable flood barrier comprising of a bracket which is sealed to the wall or similar
construction around an aperture to be protected trom flooding a watel-impelvious panel
and a clamping device for securing the panel to the wall bracket. the panel and clamp being
demountable for storage when not in use.
2. A demountable flood barrier as claimed in Claim 1 above wherein the wall bracket has
clamping lugs to align the panel and clamping device.
3. A demountable flood banier as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 above wherein the wall
bracket has a smooth outer surface to ensure a water tight joint with the panel.
4. A demountable flood barrier as claimed in Claim l or Claim 3 above wherein the panel has a
seal which is only subject to compression and not shear stress.
5. A demountable flood barrier substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1 - 7
of the accompanying drawings.
5. A demountable flood banier substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1 - 7
of the accompanying drawings.
Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows
CLAIMS 1. A demountable flood barrier comprising of a bracket which is sealed to the wall or similar
construction around an aperture (which may have a protruding sill) to be protected from
flooding, a water-impervious panel and a single clamping device for securing the panel to
the wall bracket, the panel and clamp being demountable for storage when not in use.
2. A demountable flood barrier as claimed in Claim 1 above wherein the wall bracket has
clamping lugs to align the panel and clamping device.
3. A demountable flood barrier as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 above wherein the wall
bracket has a smooth outer surface to ensure a water tight joint with the panel.
4. A demountable flood barrier as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 3 above wherein the panel has a
simply replaceable seal which is only subject to compression and not shear stress.
