Description
Joint Forming Tools
The present invention is concerned with forming the semi wet cement mortar joints in brickwork and the like. There are quite a few known iron tools that will shape mortar joints, for example, a bent bucket handle, when run through the mortar joint will give a half round concave joint to the edge of each brick, likewise a box section bent through its corners, will produce an arrowhead or inverted diamond joint. For joints that are formed below the edge of the brick, as in the weather struck joint whereby the mortar is pressed in with a trowel to slant outwardly, individuals workmanship can never be consistent because the process required to keep the joint even, is governed by hand tool coordination.Likewise for the recessed joint, I have previously designed a tool for these joints governed by wheels, this requires precision engineering of manufactured parts to produce the tool, also, the wheels running on the brick face may gather mortar and stain the brick face. Therefor I have undertaken to produce simpler tools for this purpose. According to the invention these tools can be formed at least by welding, milling or shell casting or lost wax process. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, at least one of the formations comprises of at least one formed shape of the material at an angle predetermined to the principal plane and at least one formed shape for each side of the tool that may be used in at least one plane. The unitary formation may be of any suitable material such as steel or alloy. Steel is preferred for it can be hardened to a high degree..
Preferred embodiments of the present invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing, of which :
Fig 1. is a schematic view of the embodiment of an arrowhead joint forming tool. Brick and joint form.
Fig 2. is a schematic view of a bucket handle, concave joint forming tool. Brick and joint form.
Fig 3. is a schematic view of a weather struck, outward angle joint forming tool. Brick and joint form.
Fig 4. is a schematic view of a recessed shaped joint forming tool. Brick and joint form.
Referring to Fig 1. 11 is the body of the tool whereby 7 is the arrowhead shape through the tool and forms the handle that may be used for which ever side is held 19 shows the brick edge 15 shows the end shape as at 7 whereby when placed into a semi wet mortar joint at 23 will form that shape.
Referring to Fig 2. likewise, 12 is the body 8 is the bucket handle shape 16 is that shape as at 8. 20 is the mortar and 24 is the shape formed by 16.
Referring to Fig 3. likewise, 13 is the body 9 is the weatherstruck shape 17 is the shape as at 9. 25 is the mortar showing the shape formed by 17. 21 shows a certain angle that governs the depth of the joint when run up to the brick edge the angle is such to make contact with the brick corner edge only, that will not mark the brick face when ironing in.
Referring to Fig 4. likewise, 14 is the body 10 is the recessed shape 18 is the shape as at 10. 26 is the mortar showing the shape formed by 18. 22 shows a certain angle that governs the depth of the joint when run up to the brick corner edge, the angle is such to make contact with the corner of the brick only, that will not mark the brick face when ironing in.
Claims (2)
1. A formed or parts joined joint forming tool that allows the
formation of a joint within at least one plane of its
embodiment, in which at least one of said formations comprises
of at least one formed shape of the said material extending
from the formation of the said material substantially to any
degree to said principal plain that will form and govern the
depth of a joint
2. Any part of claim 1 when isolated.
