Abstract
239,601. Airship Guarantee Co., Ltd., and Wallis, B. N. June 12, 1924. Aerostats.-A protective envelope located between the hydrogen gas bag or bags and the outer surrounding network and charged with an inert gas, such as nitrogen or carbon dioxide, is divided up by partitions into cells, certain or all of which are in gascommunication with one another. In the arrangement shown, the framework of the aerostat is composed of longitudinal and transverse members of triangular cross-section the apices of the longitudinal members A being directed outwards and those of the transverse members B inwards. The outer walls c of the hydrogen gas bags Care provided with partitions d (certain of which at regular intervals are gas-tight) connected to a nitrogen-tight envelope d<2> on the outside of which is disposed the mesh wiring envelope E of the kind described in Specification 233,020. The gas bags C are filled from a hydrogen main G, and the annular surrounding compartments D from a nitrogen main F. Non-return valves are provided for placing the separate sections of the nitrogen envelope in communication for charging purposes, and relief valves may be arranged to discharge into the interior of the transverse frames B as do also the automatic and maneouvring valves of the hydrogen bags C. If desired, the nitrogen compartments may be extended between contiguous gas bags C on one or both sides of the mesh wiring bulkheads H. According to a modification, the nitrogen envelope is formed of longitudinally-disposed compartments each provided with non-return and relief valves, and charged to a pressure equal to that of the corresponding region of the hydrogen gas bag. The nitrogen envelope may be constructed entirely separate from the hydrogen gas bags.
