Abstract
The Device would consist of a conventional fire-resistant door into which has been installed a series of small water sprinklers that would be connected to the buildings water supply system, the door would also be fitted with a sensor mechanism that would detect the presence of a fire, smoke, or excessive heat; and would automatically activate the sprinkler system. A slow speed sprinkler unit would be installed just above the door handle to assure that this component would remain cool to the touch in the event that a Person were to reach for the handle to open the door in the event of a fire. An automated dialling feature that would place a telephone call to the Emergency Services would also be incorporated into the system.
Description
A. DESCRIPTION 1. General Description of the Product
The product being considered, as conceived by Darren James, is The Sprinkler Fire
Door. The concept calls for the manufacture and installation of a device that would be used as a means of escape from a building in the event of a fire.
To accomplish this, The Sprinkler Fire Door would be configured as shown in the
accompanying illustration (see Chapter Four, Portrayal). The device would consist of a conventional fire-resistant door into which has been The Sprinkler Fire Door : installed a series of small water sprinklers that would be A device that could be connected to the building's water supply system. The used as a means of escape door would also be equipped with a sensor mechanism., the t of o fire. that would detect the presence of fire, smoke, or
excessive heat and would automatically activate the sprinkler system. A slow speed sprinkler unit would be installed just above the door handle to assure that this component would remain cool to the touch when a person reaches for the handle to open the door. An automated dialling feature that would place a telephone call to the local emergency services could also be incorporated into the system.
With this configuration, The Sprinkler Fire Door would serve as a potentially lifesaving device in the event of a fire. By automatically sending a spray of water around the door, any flames that might otherwise block access through the doorway would be doused, thus allowing a person to pass through the door to safety. This would also apply in the opposite direction should a member of the fire brigade need to pass through the door to rescue someone trapped inside the building or to carry equipment into the building to battle the fire.
The automated dialling feature would further aid in the device's ability to save lives and reduce property damage.
