Tripod and like mounts for machine guns; recoil apparatus.-Relates to mounts of the kind having a frame comprising two side-plates, the gun being supported in the frame by two pins on each side of the gun resting in notches in the side-plates. According to the invention, the gun is slidingly mounted in the frame so that it can recoil therein against the action of springs. As shown, a frame having side-plates 8 is mounted on a tripod 1, 2. Elevating gear 3, 4 is provided between the frame and the rear leg 1. The gun is mounted in the frame by two pins 11, 12 on each side engaging elongated notches 9, 10 in the side-plates 8. Within the frame is a recoil slide 16 pressed forwards by springs 18 and secured to a cross-bar 27 on the gun by a spring-pressed hook 25.
