Abstract
A tree pruner comprises a first blade 40, a second blade 50, a rocking arm 70, and two handles 42 and 71. The first blade 40 is provided at one end thereof with a first cutting portion 41 and is fastened at the other end thereof with the handle 42. The second blade 50 is pivotally fastened by bolt 60 to the first blade 40 and is provided at one end thereof with a second cutting portion 51. The second blade 50 is further provided at the other end thereof with an arm 52 having a through hole. The rocking arm 70 is pivotally fastened by bolt 62 to the second blade 50 and is provided with a slide hole 73 in which a fastening member 80 is slidably received via the through hole of the arm 52 of the second blade 50. The rocking arm 70 is fastened at the other end thereof with the other handle 71. The fastening member (80 figure 2) is provided with a sliding member 81 rotatably fitted thereover such that the sliding member 81 slides in the slide hole 73 of the rocking arm 70. This arrangement is intended to prevent friction and wear between the fastening member (80) and slide hole 73.
Description
2358338 TREEPRUNER
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates generally to a gardening implement, and more particularly to a tree pruner.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
As shown in FIG. 1, a tree pruner of the prior art comprises a first blade 10 and a second blade 20 pivoted with the first blade 10. The first blade 10 has a cutting portion 11, a first pivoting member 12 and a second pivoting member 13. The first blade 10 is fastened at the lower end thereof with a first handle 14. The second blade 20 has a cutting portion 21, a pivoting member 22, and an arm portion 23 which is provided with a slide slot 24 in which the second pivoting member 13 of the first blade 10 is slidably received. A rocking arm 30 is respectively pivoted with the pivoting member 22 of the second blade 20 and the first pivoting member 12 of the first blade 10. The rocking arm 3 0 is fastened at the lower end thereof with a second handle 3 1. In operation, the first handle 14 and the second handle 31 are moved away from each other
1 such that the cutting portion 21 of the second blade 20 turns on the firs, ,,, pivoting member 12 serving as a pivot, and that the cutting portion 21 ji pushed by the rocking arm 30 to move outward. In the meantime, the first blade 10 turns on the first pivoting member 12 serving as a pivot.
the cutting process, the second pivoting member 13 slides back and forth in the slide slot 24 of the second blade 20 so as to provide the prior arl tree pruner with a better shearing angle to facilitate the pruning of a tree.
Such a prior art tree pruner as described above is defective irl design in that the shank of the second pivoting member is in contact with the wall of the slide slot 24 in which the second pivoting member 13 is slidably received, thereby resulting in a mechanical friction which adversely affects the shearing action of the prior art tree pruner. In addition, the mechanical friction brings about the wear of the shank of: the second pivoting mernber 13.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The primary objective of the present invention is therefore to provide a tree pruner which is free from the drawback of the prior art tree pruner described above.
In keeping with the principle of the present invention, the foregoing objective of the present invention is attained by an improved tree pruner comprising a. first blade, a second blade, a rocking arm, and two handles. The first blade is provided at one end thereof with a first cutting portion, and is fastened at other end thereof with a first handle.
2 The second blade is fastened pivotally at midsegment thereof with the midsegment of the first blade and is provided at one end thereof with a second cutting portion complementary to the first cutting portion. The second blade is provided at other end thereof with an arm which is in turn provided with a through hole. The rocking arm is fastened pivotally at one end thereof with the midsegment of the second blade and is provided with a slide slot in which a fastening element is slidably received via the through hole of the arm of the second blade. The rocking arm is fastened at other end thereof with a handle. The present invention is characterized by the fastening element having a shank which is provided with a sliding member fitted thereover such that the sliding member rotates in relation to the fastening element, and that sliding member slides in the rectangular slide slot of the rocking arm.
The foregoing objectives, features, functions, and advantages of the present invention will be more readily understood upon a thoughtful deliberation of the following detailed description of a preferred embodiment of the present invention with reference to the accompanying drawings.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
FIG. 1 shows a perspective view of a tree pruner of the prior art.
FIG. 2 shows an exploded view of a tree pruner of the preferred embodiment of the present invention.
3 FIG. 3 shows a perspective view of the tree pruner of the preferred embodiment of the present invention in combination.
FIG. 4 is a schematic plan view showing that the two blades of the tree pruner of the present invention are moved toward each other.
FIG. 5 is a schematic plan view showing that the two blades of the tree pruner of the present invention are moved away from each other.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
As shown in FIGS. 2-5, a tree pruner of the preferred embodiment of the present invention. comprises a first blade 40, a second blade 50, a rocking arm 70, and two handles 42 and 7 1.
The first blade 40 is provided at one end thereof with a first cutting portion 4 1, and is fastened at other end thereof with the first handle 42.
The second blade 50 is fastened pivotally at the midsegmerit thereof with the midsegment of the first blade 40 by a bolt 60 and a nut 61 which is engaged with the bolt 60. The second blade 50 is provided 21t one end thereof with a second cutting portion 5 1, and at other end thereof with an arm 52 having a through hole 521.
The rocking arrr 70 is of a platelike construction and is fastened pivotally at one end thereof with the midsegment, of the first blade 40 b, Y a pivot 62. The rocking arm 70 is fastened at other end thereof with the 4 second handle 7 1. The rocking arm 70 is provided with an extension portion 72 which is in turn provided with a rectangular slide hole 73 in which a sliding member 81 is slidably received. The sliding member 81 may be a roller bearing. The sliding member 81 is fitted over the shank of a fastening member (bolt) 80 such that the shank of the bolt 80 is received in an axial hole 811 of the sliding member 81 via the through hole 521 of the arm 52 of the second blade 50. The sliding member 81 is fastened with the arm 52 by a nut 82 which is engaged with the shank of the bolt 80.
As the two handles 42 and 71 are moved away from each other, the first blade 40 and the second blade 50 are actuated to move away from each other to form therebetween a space to acconunodate a twig which is to be severed by the cutting portions 41 and 5 1. In light of the sliding member 81 which slides in the slide slot 73 of the rocking arm 70 with a minimum frictional resistance, the shearing operation of the two blades 40 and 50 is made easy and fast. In addition, the sliding member 81 serves as a protective means of the bolt 80, so as to prolong the service life span of the tree pruner of the present invention. The sliding member 81 of the present invention is not confined to the roller bearing. Any fitting element, such as a sliding sleeve, that can be rotatably fitted over the bolt 80 is suitable for use as the sliding member 8 1.
