Abstract
A lower back support comprising individual segments received on, and rotatable around, a central rod. The segments may be separated by spacers and each end of the rod may be provided with a threaded locking cap to secure the segments and spacers. The underside of each segment may be provided with grooves to prevent slippage when in use. In use, the support is placed under the back of a user lying in a supine or semi-supine position. The support offers traction, movement and pressure to the lumbar, sacro-lumbar and sacroiliac joints.
Description
2355664 A lateral rotating segmented producL designed eMonomically to
support and the raise the anatomical structure of the area generically known as 'the lower back' Lower Back Pain affects an estimated 40% of the population. If you don not have it now you are likely to suffer at some time in your fife. Through lost working days, the cost to the UK economy runs to billions of pounds per annum.
The fundamental cause of lower back pain is compression of the lumbarjoints, the lumbar-sacral joint and the sacrofliac joints. The product has been developed by an Osteopath and is a means to relieve these joints by traction, movement and pressure.
Accordingly this osteopathic invention provides traction, through it's ergonomic shape, movement through it's individually free moving sections and pressure through the different design of each articulating section. It mimics the forces an Osteopath or Chiropractor could use when treating a low back sufferer.
The product constitutes independent moving sections mounted on a central core, separated by spacers with a grooved underside.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1. Shows an isometric view of the product ready for use. The product contains eight individual sections each designed to articulate with a specific part of the anatomy that makes up the area commonly known with the generic term - 'the lower back.'.
Figure 2. Shows the first lumbar section.
Figure 3. Shows the second lumbar section.
Figure 4. Shows the third and fourth lumbar sections.

Figure 11. Shows the central core.
Referring to the drawing the product comprises of individually moving sections (figures 2 - 8) shaped and spaced (figure 9) to offer the relief of pain in the lower back by giving specific traction, movement and pressure.
To use the product the patient/user lies on a soft or carpeted floor space in the supine or semi-supine position, with their knees bent. The patient/user then raises their pelvis and positions the product underneath. The fourth pelvic section (figure 8) is placed near the base of the Sacrum. with the first lumbar (figure 2) at or below the lower thoracic/lumbar juncture. The patient/user alternately rocks their legs in a latero-medial plane focusing a rotational traction on the lumbar joints, the sacro-lumbar joints and the sacroiliac joints. The grooved underside stops slippage and aids the effective function of the device.
in order for ease of handling and control the device has a locking mechanism by means of a thread on the metal core (male)[figure I I] and the end spacer (female)(figure 10].

Claims (6)
1. A lateral rotating segmented product, designed ergonomically to support and the raise the anatomical structure of the area generically known as 'the lower back' in such a way that offers traction, movement and pressure to the lumbar, sacro-lumbar and sacroiliac joints.
2. A lateral rotating segmental product as claimed in Claim I wherein a grooved underside stops slippage (figures 2 - 9).
3.A lateral rotating segmental product as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 wherein a central core allows free rotational movement of each section (figure I I).
4. A lateral rotating segmental product as claimed in Claim 2 or Claim 3 wherein the sections are kept apart by spacers (figure 10).
5. A lateral rotating segmental product as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the sections are designed to apply specific pressure to the lower back (figures 2 - 8).
6. A lateral rotating segmental product substantially as describe herein with references to Figures I -I I of the accompanying drawings.
