Abstract
A cooking arrangement comprises a workstand for supporting a wok for stir-frying, which workstand can be folded or otherwise converted to a generally flat condition for storage, so that the workstand is suited for occasional use. The workstand comprises a workbench 10 formed with an aperture into which the wok locates, a shelf 14 below the workbench for supporting a gas ring 15 for heating the wok, and a lower shelf 16 for supporting a gas bottle feeding the gas ring. <IMAGE>
Description
COORING ARRANGEMENT
This invention relates to a cooking arrangement and has particular reference, but not solely, to a wok used for stir-frying.
Hitherto the wok has been located in an aperture formed in a fixed workbench, typically in the kitchen of a restaurant or other commercial premises where there is a frequent need for stir-frying.
I have now devised a cooking arrangement which facilitates occasional use and can be stored in the meantime without taking up much space.
In accordance with this invention, there is provided a cooking arrangement comprising a workstand for supporting a cooking aid, which workstand may be folded or otherwise converted to a generally flat condition.
In particular the workstand may comprise a workbench portion which is formed with an aperture for locating a wok for carrying out stir-frying. The workstand then further comprises a shelf below the workbenchportion, for mounting a gas ring for heating the wok from below. The workstand may further comprise a lower shelf for supporting a gas bottle feeding the gas ring.
Because the workstand may be folded or otherwise converted from a working condition to a flat condition, it is suited for occasional use and between times can be stored away whilst taking little space.
An embodiment of this invention will now be described by way of example only and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a front view of a wok workstand in accordance with "his inveIti',n; FIGURE 2 is a side view of the workstand shown in
Figure 1; and
FIGURE 3 is a perspective view of the workstand shown in Figures 1 and 2.
Referring to the drawings, there is shown a wok workstand of metal construction and comprising E, workbench 10 pivotally mounted to the tops of a pair of front legs 11 and a pair of back legs 12. The workbench 10 is formed with a circular aperture 13 for receiving and supporting a generally hemispherical wok (not shown) for stir-frying.
A shelf 14 is positioned below the workbench 10 and is pivotally mounted to the back legs of the workstand and temporarily secured to the front legs by locating pegs 9.
In use a gas ring 15 is fixed onto the shelf 14 beneath the wok and in order to heat the latter. A lower shelf 16 is provided and pivotally mounted to the front and back legs of the workstand. In use, a gas bottle is supported on shelf 16 and is connected to feed the gas ring.
An upstanding back 17 of the workstand is pivoted to the back legs 12 at the same points as the shelf 14. A pair of links 18 are pivoted to the back 17 and engage pegs projecting from the edges of the workbench 10 in order to lock the back 17 in its upright position shown. A narrow shelf 19 is pivoted to the front of the upstanding back 17 and is supported by channels formed in arms 20 at the sides of the shelf 19, enabling the shelf to pivot by engaging slidably along pegs inserted into the edges of the back 17.
In order to fold the workstand flat once the wok and gas bottle have been removed, the links 18 are disengaged and the back 17 is swung backwards through 1800 to lie flat against the back legs 12. The shelf 19 will swing flat against the back 17. Further, the pegs which secure the shelf 14 to the front legs 11 are removed to enable the shelf lit to be swung down to a vertical position between the back legs. Finally a pair of links 21, which are pivoted to the front legs 11, are disengaged from pins projecting from the edges of the lower shelf 16, so that then the front leg@ ca@ be raised to @@@ng the wo@k bench and lower shelf up to a vertical position, with the lower shelf flat against the upper shelf and the front legs flat against the back legs. In this generally flat condition, the workstand takes very little space for storage.
Whilst a workstand intended for supporting a wok has been described, the workstand may instead be arranged or used for supporting other cooking aids or appliances whilst providing the same advantage of taking little space for storage yet being easy to erect and fold up again for occasional use whether indoors or outdoors. The workstand may be of light weight construction so as to be readily portable.
Claims (1)
- Claims(1) A cooking arrangement comprising a workstdnd supporting a wok for stir frying, which workstand may be folded or otherwise converted to a generally flat condition.(2) A cooking arrangement as claimed in claim 1, in which the workstand comprises a workbench portion which is forward with an aperture into which the wok locates.(3) A cooking arrangement as claimed in claim 2, in which the workstand further comprises a shelf below the workbench portion, for mounting a gas ring for heating the wok.(4) A cooking arrangement as claimed in claim 3, in which the workstand further comprises a lower shelf for supporting a gas bottle (5) A cooking arrangement as claimed in any one of claims 2 to 5, in which the workstand comprises a pair of front legs and a pair of back legs and the workbench portion is pivotally mounted to the tops of said legs, so that the work stand can be converted to its flat condition by raising the front legs to swing the workbench up to a vertical position.(6) A cooking arrangement as claimed in claim 5 appended to claim 3, in which the shelf for mounting the gas ring is pivoted to the rear legs and releasably engaged with the front legs, so that once disengaged from the front legs the shelf can be swung down to a vertical position between the back legs.(7) A cooking arrangement as claimed in claim 5 or 6, in which the workstand further comprises an upstanding back which can be swung backwards to lie flat against the back legs when converting the workstand to its flat condition.(8) A cooking arrangement substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
