Abstract

A portable cooker holder proving windproofing and support for cooking vessels, comprises upright interconnected side members 1, 2 forming a screen and two horizontal supports such as 8 mounted on the side members so as to lock the side members in their assembled position, the structure being dismantleable or collapsible to provide for compact stowage when not in use. Retaining strips 11 retain the gas cooker and cooking pots etc. are located above holes 10. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Portable cooker holder This invention relates to a portable cooker holder.
Portable gas-fired cookers are available at present for use when camping or picnicking, these cookers having a base formed by the gas reservoir, a burner fed from the reservoir and a support frame secured to the reservoir and extending above the burner for supporting a cooking vessel such as a pot. Such devices on their own suffer from several disadvan tages; for example, the flame from the burner is unprotected so that on a windy day the flame is blown around and the maximum amount of heat is not directed to the pot; further, the support frame is necessarily insubstantial on such a basic cooker and does not provide a stable support for the utensil.
According to the present invention there is provided a portable cooker holder having upright side members movably interconnected to form a protective screen, and a horizontal support member carried detachably by the side members at a distance from their lower edges for receiving a cooking vessel, the support member locking the side members in their assembled positions relative to one another.
Preferably, the holder has three side members of which at least one, and most preferably all three, forms a solid barrier so as to protect the enclosure defined by these members from the effect of wind when the barrier is disposed upwind. In use a cook ing vessel will be disposed on the support member and a heat source, for example a gas cooker will be disposed under it thereby receiving protection from the wind given by the side members.
The interconnection of the side members is preferably such as to allow the side members to be stored flat one upon another for easy transportation, and most preferably they are hingedly connected.
The support member may be detachable from the side members in this case, again for easy storage and transportation.
A further support member may be provided on the side members for holding the heat source, and retaining means may be provided to give stability to such a cooker. Either or both of the support members may be held in brackets on the side members in a releasable manner.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. lisa perspective view of a holder of the invention; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the holder of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a section on the line A-A of Fig. 2.
The holder of this embodiment of the invention has three upright side members, namely a back panel 1 and two side panels 2, the side panels 2 being connected one with each side edge of the back panel 1 through hinge connections 3.
The side panels 2 and the back panel 1 are each formed from mild steel sheet to give a continuous yet lightweight structure. In use the panels 1, 2 form three sides of a cube so that the front of the holder is open for access.
Brackets 4 have their lower faces 5 welded onto the side panels 2, the brackets 4 being stepped so thattheirfaces 6 are spaced from the panel 2 and parallel to it.
The brackets 4 are for receiving a peripheral strip 7 of an upper support member 8 and lower support member 9 both of which are ofchromium-plated mild steel wire. The upper member 8 has two generally square holes 10 in it over which a pot may be placed, while in positions directly below these holes 10 in use the lower member 9 has two sets of angled retaining strips 11 each set forming three sides of a square to receive and locate a gas cooker.
In use, therefore, the holder has three upright panels 1,2 forming three sides of a square when viewed from above, and the upper and lower support members 8,9 are located across the square, being held on the panels 2. The support members 8, 9 thus lock the side members 1, 2 in position. Gas cookers can then be located between the retaining members 11 and pots placed on the upper member 8 with their bases extending across the holes 10. The cookers are therefore held in position and the pots are stably mounted on the upper member 8, the flames from the cookers being protected from the wind bythethree panels, 1, 2.
Modifications and improvements can be made without departing from the scope of the invention.
1. A portable cooker holder having upright side members movably interconnected to form a protective screen, and a horizontal support member carried detachably by the side members at a distance from their lower edges for receiving a cooking vessel, the support member locking the side members in their assembled positions relative to one another.
2. A cooker holder according to Claim 1, wherein the side members are interconnected in a manner which allows them to be stored flat against one another when not in use.
3. A cooker holder according to Claim 1 or 2, wherein the side members are hinged together.
4. A cooker holder according to claim 1,2 or 3, wherein the side members form three sides of a cube when locked in position by the support member.
5. A cooker holder according to Claim 1,2,3 or 4, wherein a second horizontal support member is disposed adjacent the lower edges of the side members for receiving a heat source.
6. A portable cooker holder substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawings.
