A brush strip assembly for use as a seal for an opening such as a door comprising a brush strip (4), an extrusion carrier (1) having attachment means for attachment of the brush strip to said opening and defining a channel within which said brush strip can be slidably maintained and a barbed U shaped spring clip (8) for retaining said brush strip within said channel. <IMAGE>
Description
BRUSH STRIP HOLDER
The present invention relates to brush strip assemblies for use as door seals or other draught-proofing means.
Generally, bottom door and similar seals are held in place by aluminium extrusions which can be screwed to the bottom of the door or other surface which requires a draught-proof seal.
It is more convenient; to provide such a carrier u the form of an extrusion of PVC. However PVC carrier are not generally favoured by the draught-proofing contract industry since they present problems in sealing the draught strip within the extrusion channel.
The present invention seeks to overcome this problem and accordingly provides a brush strip assembly for use as a seal for an opening such as a door comprising a brush strip, an extrusion carrier of plastics material having attachment means for attachment of the brush strip to said opening and defining a channel within which said brush strip can be slidably maintained and spring clip means for retaining said brush strip within said channel.
Generally a barbed spring steel clip is preferred and this can readily be forced into the end of the channel to wedge the brush strip into that channel. If the clip is U-shaped, both legs of the U can be forced into the channel one on either side of the brush strip.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying single figure which shows a perspective view part broken away of a PVC carrier and brush strip in accordance with the invention.
A PVC extrusion carrier 1 has an oper sided channel 2 within its length which has a shape to receive a filament carrier 3 crying downwardly directed brush filaments 4 to form a brush strip. The filament carrier 3 has teeth 5 which provide additional friction within the extrusion carrier to help maintain the brush strip in place and the extrusion channel 2 is open at its lower side to enable the brush filaments to extend downwards and has an inturned lip 7 which helps maintain the filament carrier in place.
The whole brush strip is slipped into the channel and then held in place by spring clip means 8. The spring clip means 8 is a barbed spring steel clip in a U-section shape which enables the two arms of the U to be forced into the channel so as to hold the brush strip in place.
Generally such a spring clip will be provided at each end of the channel although it is not always necessary to have two such clips.
Claims (2)
1. A brush strip assembly for use as a seal for an opening such as a door comprising a brush strip, an extrusion carrier having attachment means for attachment of the brush strip to said opening and defining a channel within which said brush strip can be slidably maintained and spring clip means for retaining said brash strip within said channel.
2. A brush strip assembly according to claim 1 in which said spring clip means is a barbed U shaped spring clip.
