Abstract

The invention provides pressure pads for use in improving skills in sport, particularly golf. The pads may take the form of mats on which a golfer may stand while striking a ball, the pad being such as to give an audible, visual or vibratory signal to indicate whether correct weight transfer has been achieved. Alternatively a pad may be such that it can be placed inside a golfer's shoe. The pressure sensing may incorporate an electrical switch or a charge in air pressure may actuate an audible alarm. A pad may be adjustable to cater for various weights and is durable and washable. The pad helps to eradicate what is known in golf as "Reverse Pivot".

Description

PRESSURE PAD This invention relates to a pressure pad.
Pressure pads presumably are not new, indeed the construction and method of actuation are varied and commonplace. However pressure pads can be utilised in the playing of sport.
It enables the user to be aware, either audibly, visually or by vibration through the sole that the correct weight transfer has taken place.
This greatly enhances the skill factor. Correct weight transference in the golf swing is extremely difficult to master. Accordingly this invention provides a physical training aid to achieve such a manoeuvre.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: PRESSURE PAD Fig. 1 shows the basic concept of the pressure pad with audible facility.
Fig. 2 shows again the basic concept of the pressure pad with an oscillation plate.
Fig. 3 shows a typical application of the pressure pad as an insert into a golf driving range mat.
Fig. 4 shows the position of the pressure pad placed inside the golf shoe.
Fig. 5 shows the pressure pad as an individual unit which is simply used to stand on using the right shoe.
Fig. 6 shows a concertina arrangement to actuate the contacts thus indicating to the user the correct action.
At the start of the golf swing the body weight should transfer onto the right leg.
This will cause the foam rubber pad 1 to move in a downward direction. In turn the two pins 2, against spring tension 7, will enter their respective recessed housings. In consequence the adjustable contact 9 is able to meet the fixed contact mounted on the rigid plastic moulding 3. This action completes the solid state printed circuit 4.
At this point an alarm will sound or a vibration will occur at 5 or 8 respectively.
As the downswing commences the body weight will move off the pad and the springs 7 will return the unit to its original position.
Fig.6 shows an alternative arrangement of completing the solid state electrical circuit 14. To actuate contact points 15, the concertina concept 13 is made adjustable by varied tension of the composite material.
Fig.7 shows a concertina arrangement without an electrical circuit. This arrangement relies entirely on air pressure through a two way valve 17.
Following a downward pressure air is forced out of the two way valve 17.
Simultaneously air is bled out of audible device 18. The device consists of free vibrating reeds of metal. When the weight is removed off the pad air is drawn back in via valve 17 and the unit returns to its original position.

Claims (6)

1. A pressure pad utilised to enhance the skill factor when playing sport.
A device comprising a moveable, adjustable pad which actuates an electrical circuit and indicates to the user that the correct manoeuvre has been made.
2. A pressure pad as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the device indicates the correct manoeuvre has been made either audibly, visually or by oscillation.
3. A pressure pad, as claimed in Claims 1 and 2, adapted as either an inner foot sole of the golf shoe or as a single mat inserted into a larger mat.
4. A pressure pad as claimed in Claims 1, 2 and 3 used as a foot size mat only.
5. A pressure pad as claimed in Claims 1, 2, 3 and 4 where a concertina arrangement is used.
6. An arrangement without an electrical circuit which relies simply on air pressure actuating an audible alarm.
