Abstract
The present invention relates to a tooth pick which is a modification of a conventional tooth pick utilising a plastic injection moulding technique to produce the same. The cleaning plane (2) is inserted into a gap (5) or space between teeth (51), the tooth pick has a curved frame (1) with a hook-like member (3) at the other end. The cleaning plane (2) is formed on the curved frame (1). One is allowed to use either end of the tooth pick to clean the inner surface of the gap between teeth to remove food remaining therein. <IMAGE>
Description
A TOOTH PICK
The cleaning of teeth has become an important aspect of dental health and is often emphasized by the medical profession. There is thus a demand for an improved structure for cleaning teeth.
Conventionally, dental floss has been used to resolve this problem, but this method is inconvenient for many users. Another known kind of tooth pick is shown in Figure 1. The tooth pick combines dental floss 93 and a conventional tooth pick, which comprises a holder 91 and a frame 9. Arched portion 92 holds a length of dental floss 93. The tip of holder 91 is intended to clean the clearance between teeth, and dental floss 93 in arched portion 92 is intended to clean the inner surface thereof.
Dental floss requires the use of two hands - one positioned outside the mouth and the other placed inside the mouth. This will occasionally cause diseases and is inconvenient with waste materials.
The combination of dental floss and a conventional tooth pick, as shown in Figure 1 also has some problems, which include broken dental floss 93 at the connection portion or a broken arched portion 92 of curved frame 9. In addition, since there is only a single line of dental floss 93 formed on arched portion 92, the exerted force is not controllable, which results in damage to the gum line or an increase in the gap between teeth. Therefore, it is an object of at least a preferred embodiment of the present invention to resolve the above-mentioned problems.
A preferred embodiment of the present invention will now be described in detail, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, of which:
Figure 1 is a known conventional type of tooth pick;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of a tooth pick in accordance with the present invention;
Figure 3 is a front elevation view of the tooth pick in Figure 2;
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the tooth pick in Figure 2 in use.
Referring to Figures 2 and 3, the present invention comprises a curved frame 1 having a cleaning plane 2, and a holder 4 provided with hook-like portion 3, which can be made by plastic injection moulding.
Further referring to Figure 4, the user is allowed to place fingers on the holder 4, then apply tip 21 of cleaning plane 2 into gap 51 between teeth 5 to clean them. The other end of the tooth pick with hook-like portion 3 can also help to clean teeth, being designed specifically for this purpose.
Therefore, the following advantages are provided by the tooth pick according to the present invention.
The tooth pick provides two ways to clean the teeth.
The cleaning plane 2 is so designed to prevent further enlargment of the gap between teeth because the applied shear force is controllable.
The tooth pick is made by plastic injection moulding as an integral construction and accordingly, is much more durable than a conventional tooth pick.
Since the tooth pick is made by plastic injection moulding it can be mass produced which makes it economical.
Claims (4)
1. A tooth pick comprising a holder, at one end of which is located a curved frame holding a cleaning means wherein the cleaning means is in the form of a cleaning plane.
2. A tooth pick as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the other end of the holder is provided with a hook-like portion.
