Delivery apparatus. - In pile collecting and delivery devices for collecting sheets of paper &c. from printing &c. machines of the type in which each sheet passes separately on to a receiving platform, adapted to provide momentary support, from which it falls on to a collecting platform where a batch of the required number is collected and dropped on to a delivery table, the receiving platform comprises one or more horizontally rotating sectors coacting with guides by which each sheet is located before falling on to the collecting platform, and the latter may comprises three, four or more horizontal angularly oscillating sectors which are actuated at the required moment to drop a batch of sheets on to a delivery platform. The paper &c. sheets are delivered by rollers k on to a receiving platform made up of two continuously-rotating sectors j, which are timed to occupy a position between the guides c to receive each sheet as it is delivered and then swing clear to drop the sheet on to a collecting platform. The receiving sectors are mounted on vertical shafts h provided with gear wheels o, one of which is driven from the main shaft q by a gear p and drives the other by means of a counter shaft rand gear wheels s. The collecting platform consists of four pivoted sectors m, normally positioned as shown in Fig. 2 to collect a pile of sheets thereon and adapted to be swung aside when the required number has been collected to drop the pile on the table b, the pile being then moved along the table by a pusher 3 moved along a slot 2 in the table. A transverse shaft t, driven by the main shaft q through a worm u, carries a chain wheel 4 and chain 5 passing round a chain wheel 6 on a shaft v, which is geared by gears 7, 8 to. a shaft w carrying a chain wheel 9 and chain 10 passing round a chain wheel 11 rotatable on a shaft x. The chains 5, 10 are thus driven in opposite directions and are provided with blocks 12, 13 adapted to engage the pusher 3 alternately and move it backwards and forwards. The collecting sectors m are geared together in pairs by wheels 16 engaging the gears n, and are actuated by a pair of racks 17 having pins 19 engaging slots 20 in operating levers 15 rigid with the shaft x. Also rigid on the shaft x is a trip lever 14 adapted to rock the shaft against the action of a spring 21. At the time when a pile of sheets of the. required number has been collected on the sectors m, the trip block 12 on the chain 5 engages the trip lever 14 and causes the levers 15 acting through the racks 17 to swing the sectors m from under the pile, which then falls on the table b. Almost immediately the block 12 slips over the trip lever 14 so that the spring 21 actuates the levers 15 in the reverse direction and returns the sectors m to position to collect the next sheet dropped from the receiving sectors j. The pile on the table b is moved aside by the pusher 3 engaged by the block 13 on the chain 10.
