Abstract

211,041. Bradbury, T., and Johnson, C. A. Aug. 2, 1923. Fixing strengthened handles by screwed sockets and extended axial tangs with wedge expanding - devices.- Relates to means for fixing handles in hammer heads and other socketed tools of the kind in which a wedge is drawn into the end of the handle by a screwed rod passing through the wedge and handle. The head 8 of the rod 6, and the corresponding recess 10 in the wedge 7 have at least one flat side, the form shown being of square section, and the nut 12 is flush with the other end of the handle 1. The wedge 7 is drawn into the end of the handle in the socket of the head 2 by the rod 6 when the nut 12 is rotated by a screw-driver engaged in the slot 14. A plate 15 may be fixed on the end of the handle by spikes 17, the end 13 of the nut being countersunk in the plate.
