Abstract
The stand has a top plate 10 to which a vice is bolted and three pivotable legs 12 which are held apart in the unfolded position by three rods 17 connected between the legs and a central member 16. A foot pedal 18 is provided for moving the central member 16 to cause folding and unfolding of the legs. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Portable vice stand
This invention relates to a Portable Vice Stand.
Vices are normally bolted to a wooden or steel bench in the case of an Engineers Vice orwoodworking vice.
These benches take up a lot of space especially in confined areas, also the work has to be taken to the vice.
According to the present invention there is provided a Portable stand comprising of a top plateto bolt the vice too, three legs to enable it to stand up. A means offolding up for Portability, with a locking mechanism to stiffen all three legs when unfolded.
The vice stand can be easily transported to the
Place of work and unfolded on site.
A specific embodment of the invention will be described by way of example with reference to drawings in which :
Figure 'Shows the Vice Stand in perspective.
Figure2 Shows the stand in folded position Fígure3Showsthe locking mechanism.
Referring to the drawing the vice stand comprises of a top plate 10 with slots in the top to enable various sizes of vice to be attached to the top.
The plate has thee pivot points 11 to enablethe legs 12 to be folded in and out.
The legs 12 are made out of round, square or rectangular hollow section 90 degree angle, and are provided with a pivot hole 13 at one end and a plate attached to the bottom 14to provide a foot 19.
The legs 12 are also pivoted 15 to lock legs 12 outwards by the use of a central locking mechanism 16 which forces the three central arms 17 downards and outwards assisted by a foot pedal 18 until the legs lock againstthe central member 16.
The central arms 17 are designed to lock against the central piece 16 when moved in a downwards direction and to unlock when pushed upwards enabling the legs 12 to be folded inwards.
Provision is made to hang tools on the top plate 20.
1. A portable vice stand comprising a top plate, with elongated slots at 90 degree to each otherfor bolting a wire on. Pivoted in three places at 120 degrees are three legs which are pushed apart by a central locking mechanism pushed downwards and outwards by a foot pedal which locks all three legs together. Upward movement of the central locking mechanism enables the legs to be folded in towards each other making the vice stand portable.
2. A portable vice stand as claimed in claim 1 wherein the legs are pivoted and can be locked out using a locking mechanism.
3. A portable vice stand as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 wherein the legs are of square or round or rectangular hollow section or of angle.
4. A portable vice stand as claimed in claim 1 and 3 where provision is to hang tools on the top plates.
5. Aportablevicestand substantially as described herein with reference to figures 1 to7.
Amendments to the claims have been filed, and have the following effect: (a) Claims 1-5 above have been deleted.
(b) New claims have been filed as follows:
CLAIMS
1. We claim a Portable colapsible stand for a vice, comprising a slotted work top three legs pivotally mounted at 120 degrees on the work top and strengthening members in the form of a bar pivotally attached to each leg and radially attached toa centre locking piece operated by a foot pedal attached to the centre piece.
2. A Portable collapsible stand as claimed in claim 1 wherein provision is made at the bottom of each leg to boltthe stand down in the form of a hole in the foot.
3. A Portable collapsible stand as claimed in claim 1 and 2 wherein provision is made in the form of hooks attached to theworktop for hanging tools on.
4. A Portable collapsible stand as claimed in claim 1,2 and 3 wherein the central locking arms are shaped to lock out against the central piece and pivotally mounted to obtain a cam like action producing a rigid tripod construction. Pushing upwards enablesthe legs to be folded.
5. A Portable collapsible stand as claimed in 1,2,3 3 and 4, where the foot pedal is also used for steading the stand when in use, and also when folded becomes a handle to enable the stand to be carried easily.
6. A Portable collapsible vice stand substantially as described herein with reference to Figure 1 to 7 of the accompanying drawing.
