Abstract
218,169. Campbell, L. W. Oct. 9, 1923. Rollers for drawing-frames, speeders, spinning- machines, mules, and like machines are provided with slit sleeves 6 forming ribs 7 that constitute a resilient surface which may, if desired, be covered with leather. The sleeve is preferably made of hardened steel or of other metal, or of fibre, vulcanized rubber, or a phenol condensation product; it may be constructed from tubing or rolled from a blank, or may comprise end rings united by wires. The ribs may be formed by irregular cuts or may be in the form of helices. The hubs are reduced in diameter so as to form seats 14 at their ends, which are engaged by tabs 10 to prevent relative circular movement of the sleeve and hub and by projections 16 to prevent relative longitudinal movement. The ribs may be raised above the end portions of the sleeves and the seats dispensed with. The bosses 2 may be integral with the spindle or shaft or constructed as separate elements and connected thereto as described in Specification 156,510.
