Abstract

Catch gear of mine-cage type.-When the hoisting rope breaks the spring h pulls down the rod f and the lever e is rocked to force the wedge c between the inclined inner surface b<3> of the casing b and the guided. A spring i of greater strength than the spring h is placed between the lever and the ring g<1> of the bridle chains to delay the release of the gripping device until the weight of the cage has been taken by the bridle chains after a new winding rope has been connected. Spring tension is adjusted by a screw j. The lever c is pivotally mounted on the casing band its ends are slotted to receive studs projecting from the wedge c and passing through slots in the casing. The guide-engaging face of the wedge is concave and has downwardly inclined teeth.
