Abstract

A laminated material is provided, especially for shoe uppers consisting of an inner layer of tanned and dyed real leather and an outer layer of a mouldable plastics material, such as polyvinylchloride, capable of simulating leather in appearance, the plastics material layer itself being a composite of a compact dense outer skin and an inner layer of blown expanded foam. The plastics material layer can have an acrylic coating to prevent migration of the plasticisers. Such laminated material can be cut to the shape of a shoe upper, with flow-moulding of the plastics layer to give it a leather appearance and simulate lines of stitching, and the result is an upper which gives the smell and foot comfort and feel of leather combined with the toughness and resistance to water penetration of the plastics material.
