Abstract
216,388. Cockburns, Ltd., Cockburn, D., and MacNicoll, D. July 27, 1923. Combinations of interdependent valves.-Steam leaking past the astern or ahead manµuvring valve 3 of a marine steam turbine installation is prevented from passing into the idly running turbine by means of a shut-off valve 1, and is diverted by a valve 2 to a suitable part of the system, such as the condenser or an operative stage of the turbine. All three valves 1, 2, 3 are controlled by a single hand-wheel 4, the valves 1, 2 being on a spindle 5, and the valve 3 on a spindle 6 which is linked to the spindle 5 by a lever 7 carrying a nut 8 threaded on the handwheel spindle. The closing movement of the hand-wheel first shuts the valve 3 and then opens the leak-off valve 2 and shuts the shut-off valve 1
